okay a more concise recap of what theyre adding in the next update as told during the minecon earth livestream:
first theyre doing an update around “the holidays” [so probably late december] and that will have:
stray cats with 9 different skins!
they spawn in villages and apparently will bring you little gifts sometimes
scaffolding ….. crafted with
bamboo! and bamboo forests that have…..
PANDAS!!!!!!!
apparently theyll have different traits too PLUS they make really cute squeak noises that were recorded from actual pandas
the next major real update is called “village & pillage” and is planned to be released in early 2019, and consists of:
updated village architecture!
different buildings based on the biome they spawn in
updated villager textures!!!!
they look different depending on what biome theyre in AND what their occupation is
better villager trading
CROSSBOWS!!!!!!
theyre craftable + enchantable, you can shoot multiple arrows at them once, or fireworks, and they are NOT replacing bows
pillagers
they look like grey villagers and they basically. well they pillage villages. attack villagers and destroy stuff
in the preview they had a beast with them that looked sorta like a rhino and it trampled crops
weapon of choice for these guys appears to be the crossbow
thats basically all i remember and theres probably more to come but for now! thats all we know
[side note: taiga won the biome contest and will be updated to have foxes, berries, and campfires, but its unclear if this happens in holiday update or village & pillage]

also, he really isn’t that funny. like, at first his vines were chuckle worthy but after a while it’s the same shit and you can tell he’s purposely aiming his content and humor at young people yet he’s doing it in a way that kinda insults their intelligence imo. he’s like a walking disney channel show that’s heavily marketed at preteens made by a group of out of touch middle aged men who’s version of “relatable teen humor” is selfie jokes and “look at me aren’t i so wacky and zany!?!? XD”. i have nothing against his fans as i was also an impressionable kid at one point and i fell for that stuff too, but really he’s not funny nor is he actually creative.
and it sucks because i know he’s capable of being talented, we all know it isn’t difficult for a grown man not to date a teenager, and at this point a lot of his original fans are actually in their late teens to early 20’s so he could have grown with his audience. but he spouts out the same shit all the time that he’s been doing for years, has a track record for being creepy (fan art, booty pics, and dating a 17 yr old which, while it may have been legal, was not morally sound or okay in the slightest), and he has that nice guy persona and is generally seen as inoffensive when one refuses to step back and look at the big picture. he’s that dude in his mid to late twenties that hangs out at the teen center and all the kids think he’s cool and funny until years later they get older and think “he was pretty immature for his age” and “it’s kinda creepy how he tried so hard to make kids like him so much when he could have been entertaining people in his own age group”.
it’s not diacourse or hating people for no reason, it’s observing a grown man’s behavior, being critical as adults, and having opinions based on those observations. in this case those opinions are negative and unfortunately on this site if you have negative criticism about things, it’s automatically painted as or turned into discourse. yes his videos are virtually harmless but his behavior and habit of focusing mostly on children and encouraging them to draw nsfw art while also having a history of dating someone under 18 while in his 20’s sets off a lot of red flags and makes people uncomfortable.
to dismiss these concerns shows that you care more about the (allegedly) funny internet man than you do the well being and safety of young people. if you really think that this kind of thing can’t turn sour and sinister if gone unchecked i implore you to look into onision, another internet celeb who originally made fairly harmless videos for young people but turned out to be a predator and was already too popular and had power by the time he was called out on his shit (who is still making videos with a large fanbase of underage girls).
a lady that lives in my building that i talk to every week or so saw i broke my leg and scolded me like she was my mom and called me a baka after i said it was a bicycle accident. but she seemed genuinely empathetic and offered to help me get to my apartment on the fourth floor. made me smile. shes very kind.
