The biggest shoutout to wlw who do not perform femininity. To the wlw who don’t wear make-up, or style their hair, or put a lot of thought into what they wear. To the wlw who are constantly mistaken for men. To the wlw who are too loud. Who take up too much space. Who are too masculine to be considered pretty by societal expectations.

You are amazing. You are my heroes. I love you all so much. You are not “basically a man” or trying to imitate heteronormativity by being “masculine” and loving women. I love that you are existing in the way that feels most true to yourself. I love that you are pushing against societal norms and expectations and being proud of yourself as a women/women-aligned person and in your love for women!!

This goes especially for trans wlw and wlwoc. You are punished especially hard for gender non-conformity, but you are under no obligations to perform femininity for anyone! For trans wlw, you are not faking being a woman by refusing to perform femininity, for not shaving, for not participating in societal expectations of what women are “supposed” to look like. Your womanhood is real and proud and you are incredibly brave for expressing yourself and living your life in the truest way possible. For wlwoc, you are not falling into stereotypes by refusing to perform femininity. I know that many woc are hyper-masculinized by white people and made out to be threats and “savage” for not performing femininity. You are not doing anything wrong by not performing femininity. You are not participating in a stereotype. You are not harming other women of colour. You have every right to express yourself as you see fit and to push against societal pressures and expectations. Express your gender and your existence! You don’t owe anyone anything!
