yeah, i agree! i see where antis are coming from; the main problem with ships is some people let them normalize that stuff for them in real life. sometimes people fetishize the abuse and end up not caring about real survivors, and other times survivors see these things and equate their abuse to it, which makes it harder to leave because they think it’s “normal” (like how many people wanted a relationship like what was depicted in lolita and called it a love story when the narrator was an unreliable pedophile in reality). however, antis aren’t dealing with this the right way. they target a lot of people who are still vocal about how abuse of any kind isn’t okay, or are survivors themselves, because of their ships. they look to the ships instead of how the ships are affecting the person’s views which draws a lot of negative conclusion. for example, a person who believes adult/minor relationships can be okay should not ship things like that, but a person who vocalizes that abuse is *wrong* in real life really shouldnt be a target to mistreatment. i don’t even believe antis deal with those kinds of people well either – death threats are.. not a way to deal with people. i think the ship discourse is still ridiculous though. they both use survivors as a crutch argument like theyre nothing more than defense for their opinions, and anti antis still often refuse to atleast look back and think about how supporting these ships without vocalizing that they are against real abuse might give survivors the wrong idea – that what they went through is normal.
